Tent Setup Advice - Avoid Setting Up Your Tent on a Slope

We were eagerly anticipating this trip, especially since we had just purchased a new tent we had been excited about for a while. It had been quite some time since our last camping trip (since December 2023), and we had everything well-prepared. However, the experience turned out to be less than enjoyable because it's very difficult to enjoy yourself when your tent is set up on a slope, causing things to keep sliding downhill and making it hard to sit properly.

I never realized how important topography was before starting to set up our tent at the campsite. In Malaysia, most of our camping is done at campsites with varying terrain, such as hills, beaches, or farms. Until now, I hadn't considered the significance of the landscape when setting up a tent. Usually, my focus was on positioning the entrance of the tent to avoid the hot and humid Malaysian weather, ensuring it's not facing the sunrise and maximizing ventilation by finding the windward side.

However, this time, due to the large capacity of our tent, we needed to estimate a bigger area for the setup since we didn't know how much space the tent required. We thought setting it up on a slope would be acceptable, but I was mistaken. Only the tent managed to stay in place, while the rest of our camping gear kept sliding downhill. Tables were assembled, but nothing could be placed on top without it sliding off.

In conclusion, please consider the terrain before starting the tent setup. Choose a flat surface for optimal tent placement and avoid setting up your tent on a slope. Otherwise, it can ruin the trip and pose dangers, especially during cooking.
